It’s Holiday Time!

Dealing with stroppy teenagers whilst on holiday is one thing, trying to do it whilst answering all the works calls , in a poor reception area, over the crashing of the waves and other families having fun – now that is just torture!
Some years ago we started working for a small conservatory company, a successful family run business. A happily married couple who had spent their lives building their reputation and business – but it came with a price.
For approximately seven years they were never able to have a proper holiday, even if they went away, the mobile came with them. Calls were taken wherever they were, so destinations with considerable time differences were a no, no. Then of course there had to be a signal, calls overseas were always expensive and that precious family time that we work so hard to create – well that was constantly interrupted.
We started working with Gavin to give him time to focus on his business and the tasks his business coach had set him in order to grow his business, but for him the best was yet to come! When it came to the annual family holiday, he left us to take all the calls and each afternoon at a set time he quickly checked the messages and replied to our messages advising us as to how he wanted to respond.
The best bit for me was seeing the change in Gavin and his business that first year, he actually took his birthday off for the first time since setting up the business. His holiday was exactly that, a rest time, confident in the knowledge that we were dealing with everything, but most importantly he had quality time with all his family.
That was ten years ago – and we still carry out call handling for Gavin today. It’s much less now because he has grown so much and has office staff, but we still cover the overflow calls and of course the holiday cover for his office staff.
These days we offer bespoke holiday cover starting from as little as £10 per week. When hard working business people spend their money on a break to recharge their batteries, it’s important that they do exactly that – and don’t spend a fortnight fighting with a stroppy teenager and an upset partner, just because all they did was to move the office to the beach!
