We work our way through it, longer hours, more stress, eat on the go often from fast food places, get home pour the large glass of wine ( we all know there are only four glasses in a bottle!) there’s never any time for exercise and sleep seems so elusive. Stress levels go up, so do cholesterol levels and blood pressure – these all contribute to high risk levels for vascular disease. Oh and if you’re a smoker, you probably smoke more too!
Is all this sounding familiar? As a nurse I know only too well the damage caused by strokes and heart attacks, however there is help at hand. A great book for finding another way is Tim Ferris “The Four Hour Work Week”. Tim talks about the art of delegation, making sure that your time is focussed on what you are doing, focussed time is far more productive.
One of our clients of nine years had a heart attack many years ago, as a sole trader delegates the chasing of money to us, he says it stresses him chasing outstanding payments. He also gets us to deal with all calls and appointments, that way he doesn’t get people putting pressure on him to just squeeze in that extra job, he also gets time to do his own thing, walking and cycling, thus staying healthy. I have known Stuart for many years and I have to say he just keeps looking younger, fitter and happier!
Having just moved offices I am very much aware of the effects of stress, did I follow all the things I knew would help? No, of course not, I completely slid off the scale! No exercise, crap food, little sleep and far too much alcohol! Did it help? Not at all, now I am trying to lose the extra pounds gained from my months of poor lifestyle choices, but I am quickly getting into better habits and guess what? Everything is falling into place!
So before you get to the stage where situations and the stress they cause start to affect your health, why not start to look at what you can put in place, you know the old saying…..
Prevention is better than cure!
