January: The month of Rain, Mud, Work and Treats

New Year’s Eve

The year started with us spending New Year’s Eve at Mummy’s good friend Auntie Maria,  we had a wonderful time with Auntie Maria, Mummy and Daddy, and Anna and Josh, they all seemed to have fun, but we were definitely the centre of attention.

Instead of sitting on normal dog beds, we were given enormous ones made for greyhounds, which felt like a personal upgrade. We sank straight into them and stayed there, accepting treats and admiration as if this was how we normally see in the New Year.

There were fireworks, but we weren’t bothered at all. This was partly due to our calm and sensible nature, and partly thanks to some Forthglade calming soft bite treats, which worked extremely well. So well, in fact, that Mummy later recommended them to Auntie Denise for our friend Berry. Berry likes them too and doesn’t fret quite so much now when her Mummy goes out, which we think is excellent news and proof that treats can, in fact, solve most things.

Overall, New Year’s Eve was warm, comfortable, and snack-heavy. Exactly how these things should be.

The Weather Problem

January was wet. Very wet. The sort of month where even thinking about the garden felt like an unreasonable request.

Rosie decided early on that garden trips were no longer a solo activity. If one of us was going to get soaked, then everyone was coming along. In practice this meant if Rosie ended to go out then Looby Loo and Mummy had to go too!

Office Life – AI style

With the rain refusing to stop, we spent more time indoors, which turned out to be useful because we were needed at work. January was the month we became heavily involved in office life.

Thanks to some clever AI, we sat at desks, watched screens, answered phones, built robots, you would be amazed at our new found skills! We seem to have convinced everyone that we are professional working dogs and expect this to be recognised. Unfortunately, to date, we don’t appear to have received a payslip! Rosie has said she will take this up with The United Paws Federation and ask them to look into our “Paws and Conditions”. We did get lots of treats and cuddles though.

The Christmas That Wouldn’t Leave

Christmas slowly began to disappear this month. Decorations came down, boxes were packed, and we made sure everything was properly inspected before being put away. Well actually we hid a few things, so once Mummy had put all 36 boxes of trees and decorations away, she kept finding more – and still is! Every so often we hear the cry of “Girls, why am I still finding Christmas decorations?!” – it’s so funny!

The important thing is that Christmas treats are still turning up. As long as that continues, Christmas is not over. We reckon that we have enough treats to last us until Looby Loos birthday in April – but that’s probably because Mummy does ration them. If it was left to Rosie, she’d have eaten them all before New Years Eve!

Nursing Duties

January also brought an important family visit. Nanny came to stay with us after her cataract operation so we could look after her.

We took this role very seriously. Rosie stayed close, offering calm company and gentle supervision. Looby Loo stayed equally close for practical reasons, particularly in case of dropped snacks. Nanny is doing really well now, and we are pleased to report that the cuddles appear to have helped.

Auntie Nikki’s and the Mud

Midway through the month, Mummy and Daddy went away and we packed up for a stay at Auntie Nikki’s.

Rosie tried to arrive politely and make a good impression. Looby Loo found mud almost immediately and rolled in it with enthusiasm. Rosie was not impressed. Looby Loo remained unapologetic. Auntie Nikki just looked on with exasperation!

Thankfully, this did not impact the rest of the visit. Auntie Nikki’s house is very comfortable, and Looby Loo quickly confirmed that all sofas are shared spaces. We had lots of cuddles and even helped look after Adam who needed our support after the operation on his knee. Dog cuddles really are the answer to everything 😍

January, In Summary

January has been a month of rain, work, family visits, and the occasional unscheduled bath. We are a little tired and ready for better weather. We did notice that Freda (our caravan) has been serviced, so hopefully this means we will be off on our travels again soon, Mummy says we have lots planned for this year, which is very exciting, new places, new smells, making friends and walks – lots of walks.

Until next month, lots of love and waggy tails
